Rhema (Greek) Spoken Word; “an utterance". A Rhema: the Holy Spirit brings awareness to our attention of a current situation or need for direction.

"Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (Rhema) that proceeds out of the mouth of God". (Matthew 4:4)

Our Vison

The Rhema Word Foundation is a new nonprofit in the Lexington Kentucky area committed to abuse prevention against women, seniors, and the negligence of children throughout our community. We aspire to spread our wings to surrounding areas and communities in the near future to broaden our resources to counties in need of our services. The Rhema Word Foundations provides an array of services to the community, such as food to individuals and families facing food insecurities, hygiene products, individual and group counseling sessions, housing, and financial assistance referrals. As well as, financial literacy courses, after-school tutoring, college, and financial aid application assistance. We are passionate about educating the community while raising awareness of the risen cases of abuse victims in the commonwealth. The Rhema Word Foundation serves women and children, who are affected by abuse, domestic violence, and economic disadvantages, which is why we are currently in the process of developing a new rescue house called the Rhemy's Refuge Crisis Center. The center will act as an emergency housing and traditional home for women and children who are survivors of abuse. Our vision is to build a better tomorrow by reshaping the way survivors view themselves in society. The crisis center will host life skills training, have a media, and resource center, a common area, and a tranquility garden, as well as a success chest. Our transitional housing would ensure survivors would have a safe, healthy environment to heal and be restored.

If you would like to see our vision come to life and be a part of a growing movement, please consider donating by clicking the building fund button.

Rhemy's Refuge Crisis Center Coming in 2022

You Make A World Of Difference!

We need your help!

Rhema Word Foundation is actively working on a new project. With your help, we are developing a child crisis center called Rhemy's Refuge Crisis Center for Women and Children. This will be a safe environment for women and children who are survivors of abuse to become independent and re-acclimate back into society. The crisis center will double as a transitional home for mothers who are affected by domestic violence and will offer individual counseling sessions, support groups, and temporary housing, also we will offer life skill classes, financial literacy, job readiness, health and wellness, as well as, self-defense classes.

Our goal is to be up and running by the Fall of 2022, so we are graciously asking for your help.

Since the passing of Byron and Kivva's daughter, Rhemy, they have dedicated their lives as advocates against child abuse and constantly striving to prevent other parents from experiencing the hurt and devastation they felt when losing their child to abuse.

Rhemy's Refuge will help survivors recover and cope with untimely death through empathy and compassion.

The Rhema Word Foundation is focused on becoming a household name in the local community for resources, however, we need your support to advance this ongoing mission.

Thank you for your kind generosity!

What is Domestic Violence (DV)?

What is Domestic Violence (DV)?

What is Domestic Violence (DV)?

Domestic violence is an issue that does not discriminate. It affects all people regardless of race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status. It affects children, our friends, and even our pets. People who abuse will use anything they can to gain power or control over their partner.

On average, more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the US will experience rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner.

What is Domestic Violence (DV)?

  • Withdrawal from friends or usual activities.
  • Changes in behavior — such as aggression, anger, hostility or hyperactivity — or changes in school performance.
  • Depression, anxiety or unusual fears, or a sudden loss of self-confidence.
  • An apparent lack of supervision.
  • Frequent absences from school.

Abuse in the Black Community

What is Domestic Violence (DV)?

When your Abusive Partner is also your Caregiver

Due to systemic racism, which affects our social structures as well as our policies, both Black women and Black men experience domestic violence at higher rates than other communities. In fact, 45.1% of Black women experienced physical violence, sexual violence, or stalking from their intimate partner, while 40.1 % of Black men experienced those abuses. On average, 1 in 3 women experience domestic violence (33.3%) and 1 in 4 men experience domestic violence (25%), showing that African Americans are disproportionately affected by this issue.

When a person depends on their partner for any form of caretaking, there may be an additional risk for abuse because of a power imbalance. People with disabilities often experience higher rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, and abuse, and the impact of abuse may compound the disability.

When abusive partners are also caregivers, they may try to gain control in different ways:

Who's Responsible for Reporting Abuse?

Who's Responsible for Reporting Abuse?

A mandated reporter is one who is required by law to report reasonable suspicions of abuse. When should I make a report? Most state law indicates that a report should be made when there is reason to believe that a child has been abused, is being abused, or is in danger of being abused.

In other words, it's all of our responsibility to report,  child abuse, domestic violence, senior/ elderly abuse, and neglect.

Do The Right Thing and Speak Up

It's Okay to Ask for Help!

When your Abusive Partner is also your Caregiver

Who's Responsible for Reporting Abuse?

Asking for help is one of the hardest things for most people to do because it is often perceived as a weakness. The frontline responders such as Police and firemen know that their duty is to rush towards the bang, while others run away. Parents know they put their own interests and needs behind their children. It’s often the strongest and the most helpful among us that often have the most trouble asking for help.

In 2004, Kivva and Byron were victims of a horrific tragedy that resulted in the loss of their daughter Aramah (Pronounced: A-Rhema), her nickname was Rhemy. It was during that time, unfortunately, they discovered there were no resources available in their community to help survivors cope with such devastating losses to child abuse and untimely deaths. Because of this, Kivva and her husband Byron decided to join forces in an attempt to remedy this problem. They are dedicated to changing what the "after-effects" of tragedy look like.
